Day 1, Arrival in Reykjavik Welcome to Iceland!
Iceland is a land of vivid contrasts of climate, geography, and culture.
Widely known as “the land of fire and ice” Iceland is home to some
active volcanoes, geysers, hot springs and lava fields, fjords and
glaciers. Upon arrival at Keflavik International Airport, your driver
will meet you for your transfer to the Reykjavik hotel. Unpack your
luggage, prepare your backpacks & charge your camera for the exciting
week that lies ahead. Check in and spend the rest of day at leisure. You
may explore Iceland’s capital city on your own if time allows.
Overnight Reykjavik.
Day 2, Reykjavik - Akureyri Travel west along the
scenic Hvalfjordur fjord, often referred to as “the Whale fjord” with
varied and beautiful landscape and the further town of Borgarnes. Easy
hike on Grabrok volcano crater in the middle of a greenish lava field.
It’s a little steep, so steps have been built on part of it to make the
hike easier. Further north stop at the turf church of Víoimyri, one of
the few preserved turf churches in Iceland and then continue along
scenic fjord landscape and over several mountain passes until we reach
Akureyri. Akureyri is the little big city of Iceland. It is large enough
to offer a rich selection of entertainment, art and culture, yet small
enough to be very personal and close to nature. Evening you can walk
around the town.
Overnight Akureyri.
Day 3, Akureyri In the morning explore the town of
Akureyri, also called the capital of North Iceland, and admire the
panoramic view over the Eyjafjordur fjord, the country's longest fjord
and an area of outstanding natural beauty. In the afternoon travel to
Godafoss – the waterfalls of the Gods. Then explore Lake Myvatn, known
as a geological wonderland and for its abundant birdlife. See the
strange lava formations at Kalfastrond, the pseudo craters at
Skutustadir and the tephra cone Hverfjall. End the afternoon relaxing in
the geothermal Myvatn Nature Baths (entrance by self) with a fantastic
view over the whole area.

Overnight Akureyri.
Optional Tours: 1) Myvatn Nature Baths Visit
geothermal Myvatn Nature Baths, which contains a lot of minerals, is
alkaline and well suited for a relaxing and rejuvenating bath. (Towel,
Swimsuit & Bathrobe available for rental at additional cost)
2) Whale Watching Tour (3 hrs) A 3 hours
sightseeing tour that takes you into Eyjafjörður where you can
experience the amazing sight of bottlenose whales, humpbacks and mink
whales whilst viewing the sights of the fjord.
Day 4, Akureyri to Egilsstadir In the morning walk in
the lava labyrinth at Dimmuborgir “the dark castles”, hoping to get a
glimpse of the trolls who are said to live there. In the afternoon,
visit the hot spring area of Namaskard with bubbling mud pools and
steaming solfataras. Head through the uninhabited highlands and
moon-like surrounding to East Iceland. From June to August the tour
includes a detour to the powerful waterfall Dettifoss.
Overnight Egilsstadir.
Day 5, Egilsstadir to Hofn It’s a day to admire the
dramatic fjord landscape and its tiny fishing villages at the end of
twisty roads in the East Fjords and on route visit an interesting stone
and mineral collection. In the afternoon see Vatnajokull – Europe’s
biggest glacier that is visible all-over Southeast Iceland. The glacier
covers more than 8% of the country and is the second largest glacier in
Europe by area.
Overnight Hof.
Day 6, Hof to Reykjavik First stop at Jokulsarlon, a
glacial lagoon filled with floating icebergs. Then you can walk on the
so-called Diamond Beach, a black volcanic sand beach where blue, black,
transparent and white icebergs shine like diamonds as you weave your way
between them. In the afternoon, a beautiful drive with many natural
wonders awaits us as we head across the Eldhraun lava field, cross the
sandy desert of the south coast, overlooked by mountainous cliffs,
glaciers and waterfalls. Stroll along the black lava beach of
Reynisfjara near Vík. In the small village of Skógar, there is Skógafoss
waterfall which is 60 meters high and is one of the most impressive
waterfalls in the country. Continue to the high but narrow
Seljalandsfoss waterfall which plunges over the mountain. There is an
interesting trail that goes behind the fall – if you are prepared to get
wet!

Day 7, Reykjavik – Golden Circle Trip Explore classics
today as we travel the route of the Golden Circle sights. Start the day
at Fridheimar, where you learn about the Icelandic horse, its special
qualities and history and visit a geothermal greenhouse. Later on, see
steam from the Geysir geothermal fields as we arrive. There is a variety
of hot springs and bubbling pools. The original geyser is now dormant
but has been replaced by Strokkur “the Churn” which erupts at 5-10-
minute intervals. Continue to Gullfoss, “the golden falls “, which is a
double waterfall that tumbles 32 meters into the Hvita river and
attracts travellers in summer and winter. Travel inland to Thingvellir
National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. As we return to Reykjavík,
we take you for a short city tour to show highlights of the world’s
northernmost capital. See the Hallgrimskirkja Church, Presidential
residence at Bessastaðir, Harpa Concert Hall etc. Return the car in the
evening before 6 PM. Make your own way from rental office to hotel.
